Because of the high stakes involved for students, the Cardinal Newman Society is launching a campus outreach program based on Catholic teachings on sexual ethics, human life, marriage, love, and personal responsibility.
The program’s mission is twofold:
- Build cultures on Catholic campuses that support, by way of Catholic values, an assumption of chastity.
- Provide students on Catholic campuses a clear understanding and respect for Church teachings on sexuality, marriage and human life.
The Cardinal Newman Society will seek to fulfill this mission by working toward the following, measurable goals:
- Demonstrate significant reductions in risky and immoral student behavior including sex outside of marriage, homosexual activity, and abortion.
- Demonstrate significant increases in student support for Church teachings on sexuality, marriage, and human life.
- Demonstrate improved policies and expanded programs on Catholic campuses designed to achieve the above goals, with increasing support and participation among Catholic college and university officials, faculty, and staff.
A key aspect of this program will be the development and collection of measurable data to establish benchmarks and track progress toward these goals.
